CONTACT INFORMATION NOTE: If at any point BEFORE you install the Word Translator for Windows program you need further information or help, you may double-click on the WT.HLP (Word Translator for Windows on-line help file/manual) file name when it is your in your File Manager window. This file is NOT compressed and will provide you with all the information you should require to either install or operate Word Translator for Windows. 1. WORD TRANSLATOR FOR WINDOWS SHAREWARE VERSION This shareware version of Word Translator for Windows, may be freely copied and circulated to whomever you choose. You may order a registered version by printing-out and completing the "INFO.WRI" document contained in this set of files or in your ("default") WINTRAN directory (in Windows Write [.wri] format) after you install Word Translator. You may also open the "INFO.WRI" file by double- clicking on the "Product & Ordering Information" icon in the Word Translator PROGRAM GROUP window that is created AFTER Word Translator is installed or double-click on the INFO.WRI file name in your File Manager window. Registered versions contain bilingual dictionary modules with a SIGNIFICANTLY greater number of entries, grammar help for most languages and the ability to add to, change and otherwise customize the dictionary modules to meet your specific needs. Please see the on-line manual/help file for further information about the differences between shareware and registered versions. Additionally, Russian shareware versions contain CODE.EXE, PHONETIC.EXE, RUS_FED.EXE and AATSEEL.EXE files that are installed in the "default" WINTRAN directory. All are self-extracting/self-executing ".exe" files you will have to extract before attempting to use. The CODE.EXE file creates a file named CODE.WRI (in Windows Write format) containing pictures of the three Windows Cyrillic Code Pages (IBM Code Page 1251/CP 1251) that you may print just as you would print any other ".wri" file and use as a reference. The extracted PHONETIC.EXE, RUS_FED.EXE and AATSEEL.EXE files ALL create RUSENG.KBD and ENGRUS.KBD files which, in turn, (when copied to your WINTRAN directory to replace existing files of the SAME NAME) will change your Russian Keyboard Layout to either the PHONETIC/ HOMOPHONIC, RUSSIAN FEDERATION or AATSEEL Keyboard Layout. See section 3 for instructions about how to extract files from a ".exe" file. 2. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS To allow you to both successfully install and use this shareware version of Word Translator for Windows, your computer must be an IBM-PC/XT/AT, or be 100% IBM compatible (or an "IBM clone") and have: > Windows 3.1 or higher (purchased separately) > A hard disk with approximately 1 MB of available space > A mouse is highly recommended > Although (for many languages) Word Translator can be used with Windows Write or Notepad or other Windows word processors or applications, it will operate best with Word for Windows, WordPerfect for Windows, or Lotus AmiPro (purchased separately). Use of one of these MAJOR Windows word processors is required for Russian shareware versions. 3. EXTRACTING FILES FROM A SINGLE ".EXE" FILE If you received this shareware version of Word Translator for Windows as a SINGLE compressed, self-extracting ".exe" file and want to pass it along to friends or associates in the same form, you may want to print-out this file and pass it along WITH the single Word Translator ".exe" (COMPRESSED) file. If you pass along this shareware version of Word Translator for Windows as a SINGLE "exe" file, the installation files MUST be extracted from the SINGLE ".exe" file BEFORE attempting installation of the program. The files may be extracted on the SAME floppy disk containing the ".exe" file (if there is sufficient space available ON THE DISK) or the files may be extracted on a hard drive. Even after you extract the installation files from the ".exe" file, all files EXCEPT this README.TXT, WT.HLP and the INFO.WRI file will still be compressed. Installation will decompress all necessary program files. (A) Decompress the ".exe" file on the floppy disk containing it: If the SINGLE Word Translator shareware ".exe" file you received is the ONLY file on a high density disk, at the C:\> prompt, place the disk in your A (or B) (floppy disk) drive and change the prompt to that drive by typing A:\> (or :B\>). The prompt should change to A:\> (or B:\>). At the A:\> (or B:\>) prompt, type the name of the compressed file (e.g. WT4WEP.EXE or whatever you may have renamed it) and press the key. The ".exe" file will self-extract on to the same floppy disk if there is enough space available on the disk. If there is NOT enough free space to extract all the files on to the disk, you'll need to copy the SINGLE compressed ".exe" file to an empty directory on your hard drive and extract the files IN a directory there. It may be easier to extract the files in a directory that doesn't contain anything else. Once the ".exe" file has extracted all the necessary installation files, you may want to copy all the extracted files (not the single, original compressed ".exe" file you started out with) to a blank, high density diskette. NOTE: With the disk containing the ".exe" compressed file in your disk drive, you can find the name of the compressed ".exe" file by typing DIR at the A:\> (or B:\>) prompt and then pressing the key. A list of all files on the floppy disk in the drive should be displayed including the name of the ".exe" compressed file. (B) Decompress the ".exe" file on your hard drive: With the Word Translator ".exe" file on you hard disk in a directory containing nothing else, double-click on the ".exe" file name in your Windows File Manager window -- OR -- From the C:\> prompt, type CD space and the name of the directory containing the ".exe" file and press the key. At the C:\directory_name> prompt, type the name of the ".exe" file (e.g. WT4WEP.EXE) and press the key. The ".exe" file should self-extract all installation files on to your hard drive in the SAME directory containing the original SINGLE ".exe" file. You may either transfer ALL the extracted installation files from the directory containing them (but not the single compressed ".exe" file you started with) to a blank, formatted high density disk and install the program from the disk --OR-- leave them in the directory where they extracted and install them from that directory. 4.
